Saturday, April 16th 2005: Woke up feeling the onset of a cold. I was perfectly fine when I went to bed the previous night. Worked all day as a volunteer at the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. It was a beautiful sunny day. It was a great festival with lots of different kinds of food. My work was to sell beer in one of the beverage stalls. Pouring beer is a tricky thing because you have to pour it in the glass in such a way that there is no foam. If you don't know how to do it right, you might end up with more than half the glass filled with just foam! That is not good for people who are paying money for the beer, not for the foam. I got 16 food tickets for working two shifts. They sell food at the fair in exchange for these tickets, which you buy at the entrance. I also got a free pass to visit the festival the next day. My plan was to work all day on Saturday and then come back on Sunday to enjoy the festival. Long story short, I fell very very ill by Saturday evening. I felt like my body was invaded by fever-and-cold virus from the Dark Side, sucking away the Force from my body. I was so beat the next day, I could not get out of bed to get myself something to eat from my own kitchen. Needless to say, I could not go back to the culinary festival to enjoy the food I had worked for. It's true what they say: on every grain is written the name of the person who will eat it.
Wednesday, April 20th 2005: The fever was really bad, along with the headache. Saturday night was the worst night of my life. I thought I would go insane because of the headache. Literally. I don't remember when I was so sick last. I did not go to work on Monday. I did not go to work on Wednesday. I went to work on Tuesday, but felt so exhausted, I had to leave work early and come back home! I think that has never happened to me before: going to school or work, only to return home early because of illness. Taking care of myself alone at home was tough, especially when I felt hungry and wanted to eat something. There were times when I felt I could not get out of bed and get something from the kitchen to eat. But I managed. I had to take tylenol tablets regularly to keep the fever and headache away.
Friday, April 29th 2005: Feeling much better by now. The fever totally went away last week. There is a little bit of cold left. That will go away soon too.
On another totally unrelated front, there seem to be a LOT of pregnant women in my universe right now. There are no less than 4 pregnant women in my team at work. The wives of two colleagues gave birth late last month and earlier this month. There are at least two more colleagues whose wives are expecting. I have a friend (Ramkumar) whose wife is pregnant. And I have two friends (Pankaja and Sowmya) who are also pregnant. Wow!
