Random Personal Updates - Fever & Pregnant Women

Saturday, April 16th 2005: Woke up feeling the onset of a cold. I was perfectly fine when I went to bed the previous night. Worked all day as a volunteer at the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. It was a beautiful sunny day. It was a great festival with lots of different kinds of food. My work was to sell beer in one of the beverage stalls. Pouring beer is a tricky thing because you have to pour it in the glass in such a way that there is no foam. If you don't know how to do it right, you might end up with more than half the glass filled with just foam! That is not good for people who are paying money for the beer, not for the foam. I got 16 food tickets for working two shifts. They sell food at the fair in exchange for these tickets, which you buy at the entrance. I also got a free pass to visit the festival the next day. My plan was to work all day on Saturday and then come back on Sunday to enjoy the festival. Long story short, I fell very very ill by Saturday evening. I felt like my body was invaded by fever-and-cold virus from the Dark Side, sucking away the Force from my body. I was so beat the next day, I could not get out of bed to get myself something to eat from my own kitchen. Needless to say, I could not go back to the culinary festival to enjoy the food I had worked for. It's true what they say: on every grain is written the name of the person who will eat it.

Wednesday, April 20th 2005: The fever was really bad, along with the headache. Saturday night was the worst night of my life. I thought I would go insane because of the headache. Literally. I don't remember when I was so sick last. I did not go to work on Monday. I did not go to work on Wednesday. I went to work on Tuesday, but felt so exhausted, I had to leave work early and come back home! I think that has never happened to me before: going to school or work, only to return home early because of illness. Taking care of myself alone at home was tough, especially when I felt hungry and wanted to eat something. There were times when I felt I could not get out of bed and get something from the kitchen to eat. But I managed. I had to take tylenol tablets regularly to keep the fever and headache away.

Friday, April 29th 2005: Feeling much better by now. The fever totally went away last week. There is a little bit of cold left. That will go away soon too.

On another totally unrelated front, there seem to be a LOT of pregnant women in my universe right now. There are no less than 4 pregnant women in my team at work. The wives of two colleagues gave birth late last month and earlier this month. There are at least two more colleagues whose wives are expecting. I have a friend (Ramkumar) whose wife is pregnant. And I have two friends (Pankaja and Sowmya) who are also pregnant. Wow!

Visit to my first Baseball Game

BankOne Ball Park Suite & View from the Suite (Click for bigger pics)

On Mar 31st 2005, I got a chance to visit my first baseball game in the US: Arizona Diamondbacks vs Boston Red Sox at the Bank One Ball Park in Downtown Phoenix.

I got suite tickets through my client company APS. You can see the picture of the suite above. The suite was like a hotel room with couch, kitchenette, attached bathroom, and seats with a view whose picture I have posted above. Our suite was right behind the batter, and it came with a bottle of wine, fruit salad, hot dogs, water, Pepsi. It felt and was indeed posh!

We were nine of us in the suite: 5 business analysts (BAs) from my team, their 3 guests and myself. I pestered the BAs with questions about the game. It got interesting once I got the hang of it. The game started at 6:40 PM and went on until 10:30 PM or so. I think there was just one home run in the entire match... may be two. Everyone told me it was a slow, long game. I wondered what they would feel about our cricket matches which go on for a day or 5 days!

Match result: The home team, AZ Diamondbacks, lost 9-7 or something like that.

I thought the most interesting moment of the match was during a special announcement:

Just a moment before I took this photo, the bottom right of the announcement board where you see the picture of a player, showed Ruben going down on his knee in front of Diana. Wish I had taken the picture just a little sooner!

Gas Prices in a Phoenix Gas Station!

Gas Prices in a Phoenix Gas Station! (Click for bigger pics)

The pictures show the per gallon price of 3 grades of gas (petrol) on 27th Mar 2005, at a gas station in Phoenix, Arizona.

We have heard that gas prices in Phoenix are going to get very high in the Summer, but I did not think they would get so high, this early in the Spring! Then I realized that someone at the gas station near my home slept through the decimal lessons in school. :-)

Welcome to the KLE Friends Blog

Welcome to the group blog of KLE Class of '97 and Friends.

Our core group of friends met in July 1994, when we started the 3-year B Sc course in KLE Society's S Nijalingappa College, Bangalore.

(KLE Nijalingappa College Campus)

Since then, it has been an incredible journey of fun and frolic, pranks and rags, grief and disappointments, fights and friendships, love and laughter. Some of us did not even stay until 1997 to finish the B Sc course. Life had other things in store for us. Yet, we remain friends. I can't believe it has been over 10 years since we first met.

Over the years, other special people joined our lives. Some of them friends, some of them lovers, some of them have become our life partners.

Most of us are still in Bangalore right now, but some of us are in different parts of the world. As we go through our busy lives, the common thread of friendship binds us. However, it is not easy to share the events and thoughts in our lives with everybody else in our friend's circle. Hence, this blog.

This is a group blog for KLE Class of '97 and our special friends. I hope that through this blog, we can share the events and thoughts that pass through our lives, with pictures and words. I request everyone to post regularly and share your special lives with our friends.

Love and luck to all,
Aravind
